Polyurethane innovation award finalist for 2018

3 Oct 2019

Center for the Polyurethane Industry announces Demilec as a finalist for the 2018 Polyurethane Innovation Award.

Demilec (USA) Inc.’s Heatlok HFO has been selected as a finalist for the Center for the Polyurethane Industry (CPI) Innovation Award. The award provides the opportunity to recognize companies and individuals who have made noteworthy achievements within the industry during the past 12 months.

The award honors Demilec’s Heatlok HFO, which delivers a zero-ODP, ultra-low GWP and high renewable and recyclable closed cell foam for the insulation industry. Heatlok HFO High Lift, with its R-7.5/inch, innovates for the residential builder. Heatlok HFO Pro, at R-7.4/inch, creates a Class II vapor retarder, air/water barrier, and thermal insulation at 1 inch, which is an ideal solution for commercial buildings.

Manufactured with Soya Oil and PET, Heatlok HFO resin delivers 19% renewable and 6% recyclable content. The use of PET also provides flame resistance, delivering a 12-flame spread for Heatlok HFO foam.

Heatlok HFO High Lift delivers a more advanced foam performance for the residential market. Contractors reported indicated yields of 5,200 board feet at 2 pounds per cubic foot. Due to the 1,000-lb. set weight, Heatlok HFO High Lift transforms 87% of its formula mass into foam. Combined with an industry-leading R value of 7.5/inch, a contractor can now spray an R-49 cathedral ceiling in a single application, which in turn has reduced job site time.

Although the R-value at 1 inch and dimensional stability are not sufficient for the commercial construction industry, Demilec created a second formulation; Heatlok HFO Pro. It was designed on a molecular level to specifically address the challenges of today’s building envelope. Heatlok HFO Pro has a 98% closed cell content, which delivers 0.91 perms improved dimensional stability and an R 7.4 at 1-inch depth to assure moisture vapor control within the exterior cavity.

“Demilec is honored to be a finalist for the CPI Innovation award, as this award is steeped in tradition and excellence. In bringing an HFO blown closed cell to the market prior to the mandatory transition, Demilec strove to develop a closed cell foam ready for the building envelope requirements of the future while delivering value to the contractor today,” said Doug Brady, Vice President Innovation and Marketing, Demilec. “Heatlok HFO demonstrates leveraging strong polyurethane innovation into stronger polyurethane products.”

For the 2018 Polyurethane Innovation Award, judges selected three Polyurethane Innovation Award finalists based on impact on the polyurethanes industry, uniqueness of the innovation, quality of the science and societal impact. Attendees will vote in favor for one innovation at the 2018 Polyurethanes Technical Conference on Oct. 1-3 in Atlanta. A winner will be announced during the closing session on Oct. 3.
